India is set to launch a dedicated weather satellite by 2028-29 to provide more accurate and customized weather services, specifically for the power sector among others.
Led by the ministries of new and renewable energy and earth sciences, this move aims to make weather forecasts more accurate—so power producers can avoid surprise penalties and grid congestion.

Satellite will help predict supply and demand better

With tech like Doppler radars and data from all corners (private and government), the satellite will help predict supply and demand better—something other countries have struggled with.
The goal? Keep blackouts at bay, support India's huge solar and wind targets for 2030, and make sure the shift to clean energy actually works for everyone.
