India's 5G user base to surge by 2030
Technology
India's 5G boom is just getting started—by 2030, nearly three out of four mobile users here are expected to be on 5G, with subscriptions reaching a massive 980 million.
This surge is thanks to increasing 5G smartphone adoption, greater demand for fast data, and wider access to mid-band spectrum.
How mobile subscriptions will change
Right now, about a quarter of Indian mobile users are already on 5G. As more people upgrade their phones and use more data (India already leads the world in monthly data usage per person), older networks like 4G will shrink.
Ericsson's CTO Erik Ekudden points out that as standalone 5G expands, service providers can offer cooler new digital services—but building out those networks remains key to unlocking all that potential.
