Instagram lets teens change app icons, but adults can't

Technology

Instagram just dropped a new feature for teens: you can now swap out the Instagram app icon on your phone for styles like neon or green slime.
Just tap the Instagram logo at the top of your feed to try it.
While it's a fun way to make your home screen more you, adults are a bit bummed—they don't get access to this perk.

Why the teen-only icon change?

This move is part of Instagram's push to keep younger users interested, especially since teen accounts (launched last year) already have extra safety features like PG-13 content limits.
Unlike Snapchat, which charges for icon changes, Instagram is offering this for free—but only to teens.
The trend follows Apple's focus on home screen personalization that's been growing since 2020.
