iPhone users are now being targeted in new WhatsApp scam
Hyderabad police have flagged a new WhatsApp scam that now also targets iPhone users.
Scammers pretend to be courier agents and ask you to dial certain codes, claiming it's for parcel verification.
But these codes actually forward your calls, letting fraudsters hijack your WhatsApp account using call-based authentication.
Once they're in, they lock you out by turning on two-factor verification.
How to stay safe from such scams
After taking over your account, scammers message your friends or family asking for urgent money transfers—often using fake courier alerts to rush you into action.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau says these scams are getting more common and that fraudsters tweak their tricks based on your mobile provider.
Police advise: never enter codes from unknown callers, disable call forwarding if things feel off, and always double-check before responding to suspicious messages.
If you think you've been targeted, uninstall unfamiliar apps and secure your number before reinstalling WhatsApp.
Stay alert and report anything fishy right away!
