Japan and India team up for Chandrayaan-5 moon mission

Technology

A Japanese delegation just visited ISRO to talk about teaming up on the upcoming Chandrayaan-5 lunar mission.
Led by Saku Tsuneta, Vice-Chair of Japan's Cabinet Committee on National Space Policy, the group met ISRO's chairman on November 21 to discuss how both countries can work together through their space agencies, ISRO and JAXA.

What's special about Chandrayaan-5?

Chandrayaan-5 will explore water and other resources near the moon's south pole. The mission features an Indian lander and a Japanese rover, set to launch on JAXA's H3 rocket.
Scientists from India, Japan, Europe (ESA), and NASA are all pitching in with instruments for in-situ analysis.
The project is also paving the way for future goals—like bringing back moon samples and even sending an Indian astronaut to the lunar surface by 2040.
