Jio insists on 26 GHz Wi-Fi despite Airtel interference concerns
Technology
Jio is sticking to its plan to use Wi-Fi tech on the 26 GHz spectrum, even though Airtel raised concerns about interference and not following global 5G norms.
Jio says India's rules let them use any standard-approved tech, as long as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) gives a green light.
Jio plans broadband using IEEE 802.11
Jio wants to roll out high-speed broadband using this spectrum, especially in places where laying fiber isn't practical.
Their solution is based on widely accepted Wi-Fi standards (IEEE 802.11).
To make sure everything runs smoothly and safely, technical guidelines are being finalized by TEC and IIT Madras by June 2026.
Jio believes this approach will help bring affordable internet to more people and make better use of unused spectrum.
