Judge dismisses copyright lawsuit against Meta

A group of 13 authors, including Sarah Silverman and Ta-Nehisi Coates, sued Meta, saying the company used pirated copies of their books to train its Llama AI without permission.
This week, a US judge dismissed their case, finding the legal arguments weren't strong enough to move forward.

TL;DR

'Whether using copyrighted material for AI is...': Judge

The judge made it clear this decision only covers these 13 authors—not everyone whose work might have been used.
He pointed out that whether using copyrighted material for AI is "fair use" really depends on each case.
Even though internal chats at Meta showed they discussed risks of using pirated content, that didn't change the outcome here.
The bigger debate about how AI companies should use creative works is still very much alive.
