LightSpy spyware linked to China-backed hackers spreads to 13 countries
Heads up: cybersecurity experts just found that LightSpy, a sneaky piece of spyware previously linked to China-backed hackers, has spread to 13 countries, including the US
Originally spotted in 2018, it's now a commercial tool used by governments and businesses to steal things like your location, passwords, chat messages, and even screen recordings from infected devices.
LightSpy can now infect routers
The big upgrade? LightSpy can now infect routers, not just phones or computers, which means hackers could gain visibility and access to any other device on the same network.
It works on iPhones, Androids, Windows PCs, and even Linux servers by exploiting device-specific flaws.
With at least 117 servers worldwide and custom branding to attract clients, LightSpy is raising serious concerns about privacy and global security, especially since it's been linked back to a Chinese contractor thanks to a slip-up with an online food order.
