Made-in-India Supernova stent retriever gets CDSCO nod for 2026 launch

Technology

India's own Supernova stent retriever, built by Gravity Medical Technology, just got the green light from CDSCO and is set to launch in February 2026.
Designed to treat major strokes within 24 hours, it'll be made locally—thanks to strong results from a multicentre GRASSROOT trial across India.

How did it perform in trials?

The GRASSROOT trial, led by AIIMS Delhi and run across eight centers, showed a solid 94% success rate at restoring blood flow (in just one or two tries), with low complication rates.
Half the patients were able to regain independence after three months—a big deal for stroke recovery.

Why does this matter?

Supernova will cost about a quarter of what imported devices do, making advanced stroke treatment more accessible for millions in India.
Since its approval is based on local data—not foreign studies—it's tailored for Indian needs and could make a real difference where stroke care is still tough to access.
