Mantax and Otax Android malware steals data and enables remote access
Heads up, Android users: new malware called "Mantax Otax" is making the rounds. It acts as spyware, ransomware, and even lets hackers control your device remotely.
The malware spreads through shady APKs, sketchy links, and social engineering tricks, so if you install it, attackers can grab info like your Android version, location, and Google account details.
Mantax Otax records screens and photos
Mantax Otax can swipe sensitive stuff like OTPs, call logs, browsing history, and messages from WhatsApp or Telegram.
It secretly records screens and snaps photos using your camera.
The latest version also bombards you with annoying pop-ups and videos, and on Android 9 or older, it can encrypt photos, videos, documents, and other files, while also blocking access to the screen.
Experts warn it could spread wider. To stay safe, stick to trusted app stores, deny unnecessary permissions, turn on Google Play Protect, and keep your system updated.
