Microsoft's new Entra Agent ID gives AI agents their own "digital ID"
Microsoft just launched Entra Agent ID—a tool that basically gives every AI agent its own unique identity, kind of like a digital passport.
Announced at the Ignite Conference, this move is all about helping companies keep track of their growing number of AI agents, especially since experts predict almost half of businesses plan to deploy AI agents within a year.
With features like conditional access and identity protection (think security checks for AI agents), managing these AI agents should get a lot easier.
How it works and why it matters
Entra Agent ID plugs right into Microsoft's Agent 365 control panel and works across platforms like Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry. It even lets companies update external AI agents through an improved API.
Right now, it's free to try in public preview, but expect paid plans to arrive in early 2026.
By making sure each bot only gets the access it needs ("least privilege" policy), Microsoft hopes to keep things secure and make life simpler for anyone dealing with lots of digital assistants.
