Northern lights could light up 14 US states tonight

Technology

NOAA says a burst of solar wind is bringing minor geomagnetic storms, making the Northern Lights visible across parts of the northern US from November 25-27.
This is a rare chance to catch the auroras farther south than usual.

Where can you see them?

If you're in Alaska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Vermont, New Hampshire, Idaho, Wyoming, Iowa or New York—tonight's your shot.
If the storm strengthens, even more southern states might get a glimpse.

When and how to watch

Peak viewing times are 4-7pm and 10pm-1am EST.
Find a dark spot facing north with clear skies—city lights will make it harder to see.
Give your eyes about 30 minutes to adjust to the dark.
Pro tip: use your phone camera; it can sometimes pick up faint auroras before you do!
