PISA 2025: frequent AI drafting tied to lower science scores

The new PISA 2025 report says students who use AI chatbots almost every day to draft their assignments tend to score lower in science.
Students using one almost every day to draft their assignments scored 481 in science, while those who never use a chatbot to draft their assignments scored 509 in science, a difference that is worth roughly a year and a half of schooling.
Trained students have 14-point science advantage
Not everyone gets the same guidance on using AI.
While most students said they were taught how to check AI-generated content, disadvantaged students often missed out.
Those who got proper training scored 14 points higher in science than heavy users without it.
OECD education chief Andreas Schleicher said AI should be used as a "scaffold, not a crutch."
