Now, tell Google Assistant to play Netflix on Android TV
After a long wait, Android TV users have gotten the option to command their Google Assistant-enabled devices, like Google Home, to play Netflix. Android TV devices have long supported the option to cast content, but the lack of this particular capability had bothered many users. But now, Google has confirmed that the issue is being fixed. Here are the details.
Chromecast functionality on Android TV devices
Notably, as Android TV devices also serve as Cast targets, users get nearly all Chromecast functions to play content, including that from YouTube. Google Assistant has also been integrated with Netflix since 2016. However, whenever the Assistant was called to play content from the service on Android TV, the response was "Sorry, I can't play Netflix on Android TV yet."
Android TV's own assistant worked just fine
Adding more to the confusion, Android TV's assistant worked just fine when called out to play content from the streaming service.
Google's solution is now being rolled out
While it remained unclear what caused the glitch, Google has confirmed to Android Police the issue will be fixed by the end of this week. The company has said 100% of Android TV units will receive an update that will enable the functionality to play Netflix via voice commands. However, it still remains unclear if the same would be the case with other services.
