PM Modi meets 'Avataar' team to discuss AI's unified layer
Prime Minister Modi just sat down with Sravanth Aluru and the Avataar team to talk about the Unified AI Layer—think of it as "UPI for AI."
This new tech, part of the IndiaAI Mission, is being built to serve India at population scale, with February 2026 cited as a critical milestone, and with beneficiaries cited as including farmers in Vidarbha and students in Varanasi.
Why should you care?
The Unified AI Layer is designed to tackle big issues like groundwater shortages, local-language education, and healthcare access.
The goal is to make using AI as easy and widespread as UPI payments—so everyone can benefit, not just techies.
Plus, these solutions could become models for other countries in the Global South.
With the India AI Impact Summit coming up soon (February 19-20), expect more people-focused innovations on everything from job creation to fairer tech and smarter energy use.
