RBI requires biometric authentication for online payments April 1 2026
Technology
Starting April 1, 2026, the RBI is shaking up how we pay online: less reliance on OTPs.
Instead, you'll use your fingerprint or face to approve payments.
The goal? Make digital transactions safer and way less annoying.
Razorpay launches biometric passkey with Mastercard
To match these new rules, Razorpay rolled out a "Passkey" system with Mastercard (and soon Visa), reducing reliance on OTPs and using biometrics instead.
This should fix those payment fails (since authentication-related issues cause about 35% of them) and boost success rates up to 95%.
Plus, your card details stay private from merchants, making things more secure as online fraud keeps rising.
