Reliance Jio plans 1,600-satellite network by 2035 to connect India
Technology
Reliance Jio is gearing up to launch 1,600 satellites in low Earth orbit by 2035, aiming to deliver high-speed internet, even in remote corners of the country.
The satellites will sit at an altitude of 650km, a bit higher than Starlink and Amazon's networks.
IN-SPACe is coordinating the project, and Jio hopes this move will boost connectivity where it's needed most.
Jio tests 2027, service possible 2028
Jio plans to begin satellite tests in 2027 with a few satellites. Commercial service could kick off as early as 2028, focusing on India first.
Once all satellites are up and running by 2035, Jio expects to offer broadband and mobile services nationwide, making reliable internet way more accessible for everyone.
