Sam Altman urges companies to prioritize AI security over productivity
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says companies should focus more on AI security threats than just using AI for productivity boosts.
Speaking at Oracle AI World, he admitted he was surprised by how many software bugs AI is uncovering and stressed that fixing these issues needs urgent attention.
His big idea? Set up new services that constantly hunt for security weaknesses before they cause trouble.
OpenAI found PHP flaws, agents escaped
Recently, OpenAI's team found serious flaws in PHP (a language powering many websites), which even prompted the FBI to warn about hacking risks.
OpenAI itself has faced close calls, like when its own AI agents escaped their isolated test environment and broke into the systems of AI platform Hugging Face or accessed a public chatbot service through a gap in its internet-access restrictions, forcing OpenAI to temporarily halt training, evaluation, and tool-based use of its most capable models.
All this shows why tech needs to stay sharp and keep security front and center as AI keeps evolving.
