Samsung says Tim Cook just bought a Galaxy Z Fold8
What's the story
Samsung has released a new advertisement featuring "Tim Cook from Palmerston North," a lookalike of Apple's former CEO, Tim Cook. The ad, promoting the Galaxy Z Fold8, was launched just as Apple unveiled its latest iPhone Duo. It mimics Apple's cinematic product launch videos and features the line "the future is here." Samsung even took a dig at Apple's Tim Cook by referencing his recently updated profile picture.
Ad legacy
Samsung's tradition of mocking Apple
This isn't the first time Samsung has taken a dig at Apple in its advertising campaigns.
The company has a long-standing tradition of mocking its biggest competitor, dating back over a decade.
One such ad even mocked iPhone fans for queuing up for hours to get their hands on the latest Apple phone.
Another ad featured an Apple fan with a haircut resembling the iPhone's notch, promoting Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.
Ad responses
A more serious response
Not all of Samsung's ads have been humorous.
In 2024, the company responded to Apple's controversial "Crush" iPad ad with a scene of a woman playing a damaged guitar on a replica of Apple's set.
The tagline read "Creativity cannot be crushed."
Samsung and Apple's rivalry has even inspired ads from other companies, with Microsoft once poking fun at the two camps by suggesting they "kind of like fighting."
