SoftBank targets dominance in 'Artificial super intelligence'
SoftBank, led by CEO Masayoshi Son, has set its sights on becoming the top name in "artificial super intelligence" over the next decade.
At their annual meeting, Son shared his big vision: he wants SoftBank to shape the AI world much like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google's parent company, Alphabet, have done with tech.
SoftBank is 'all in on OpenAI'
To make this happen, SoftBank is investing heavily—buying US chip designer Ampere for $6.5 billion and committing up to $40 billion to OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT (with $32 billion already agreed).
Son says he's "all in on OpenAI," showing confidence reminiscent of SoftBank's early Alibaba days, but he's also aware of past missteps like WeWork.
The focus now is all about helping build the future of tech through smart AI moves.
