Surat tech student innovates for colourblind individuals
Saakshi Padmawar, an MTech student at SVNIT Surat, has created a smart image recoloring algorithm to help people with Color Vision Deficiency (CVD) see colors more clearly.
Her project just won Best Paper at the OPJU International Technology Conference.
CVD affects about 8% of men and 0.4% of women worldwide, making it tough to tell colors like red and green apart.
How does the algorithm work?
Padmawar's algorithm uses AI tools called GANs and some clever math to recreate how colorblind people see images, then adjusts the colors so differences stand out better—while still keeping things looking natural.
Making daily life easier
The tech can be used on screens or in future smart glasses, helping users spot colors in things like traffic lights, school charts, or websites.
It's all about making daily life smoother for millions who struggle with color vision.
