Tamil Nadu launches 'Uzhavar' AI scheme, 2Cr to aid farmers
Tamil Nadu just rolled out the Uzhavar AI scheme, a ₹2 crore project using artificial intelligence to help farmers make smarter decisions.
Announced by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister R Vinoth on August 6, this initiative aims to guide farmers through everything from sowing and crop management to harvesting, all with a tech-savvy twist.
Voice-First AI links advisories and schemes
Uzhavar AI brings local weather updates, soil health and fertility guidance, pest alerts, and personalized crop tips right to farmers' phones.
Its "Voice-First" feature means even those who aren't comfortable reading can get real-time advice, real-time market information, and details about government welfare programs just by asking questions out loud.
The scheme also connects with existing farmer ID systems and plans to issue Soil Health Cards to 400,000 farmers.
Plus, eight new Agricultural Extension Centers will offer storage, expert guidance, and easier access to government schemes, making farming a bit less stressful and a lot more efficient.
