Tesla is close to completing the design phase of its fifth-generation artificial intelligence (AI) chip, dubbed AI5. The company has also started work on a new chip, the AI6. This was revealed by Elon Musk himself in a recent post on X. "Our goal is to bring a new AI chip design to volume production every 12 months," said Musk.

Musk further detailed the evolution of Tesla's AI chips, saying, "The current version in cars is AI4, we are close to taping out AI5 and are starting work on AI6." He also emphasized that Tesla has had an advanced team for chip and board engineering for several years. This team has already designed and deployed millions of these advanced chips in Tesla's cars and data centers.

Samsung to manufacture AI6 chip
In July, Samsung Electronics announced a $16.5 billion deal to manufacture AI chips for Tesla. The tech giant will produce the new AI6 chip at its facility in Texas. Musk had previously said that he expects to produce these chips at a higher volume than all other AI chips combined, emphasizing his confidence in the company's capabilities.
