This Mumbai-based engineer is making stair-climbing wheelchair
Siddhant Singh, a mechanical engineering graduate from Mumbai, has designed a robotic wheelchair that can climb stairs and handle rough paths, something he wished existed for himself and others with mobility challenges.
Inspired by his own experience with muscular dystrophy, Singh has named his start-up NishCorp Technologies in memory of his late brother.
Singh's design features a dual-track system and AI for navigation
It uses a dual-track system to switch between stairs and uneven ground, plus self-balancing technology for extra stability.
Sensors and cameras help it map surroundings and avoid obstacles, while artificial intelligence steps in when things get tricky.
The best part? There is a simple one-button control for climbing stairs.
The wheelchair is expected to be available in a few years
Singh's prototype is still being developed, with support from government grants.
He has applied for a patent, and if all goes well, you could see this wheelchair hit the market in the next few years.
