Turmeric's power: Curcumin works as well as omeprazole for tummy troubles, says study

Technology

A new study shows that curcumin—the active ingredient in turmeric—relieves functional dyspepsia (that's chronic indigestion) just as well as omeprazole, a common acid-reducing drug.
Researchers tracked 206 Thai adults with stomach issues; most were women, and the average age was about 50.

What did the study find?

Participants took either curcumin capsules, omeprazole pills, or both for 28 days.
After four weeks, all groups saw similar drops in pain and other symptoms.
People taking only curcumin actually reported a slightly bigger boost in satisfaction than those on omeprazole or both together.
By day 56, improvements held steady across the board.

Is it safe?

No serious side effects popped up—just mild ones that were about the same no matter which treatment people got.
So if you're looking for a natural option for stubborn indigestion, turmeric might be worth a look (but always check with your doctor first).
