Want to look younger? Invest in social bonds, study says
A fresh study from Cornell University suggests that lifelong investment in social bonds and connection can help keep your body younger and lower chronic inflammation.
Published on October 11, 2025, the article looked at 2,117 adults and found that people who make lifelong investments in social bonds and community ties see real health benefits as they age.
Key findings of the study
Researchers measured something called "cumulative social advantage," which includes things like parental warmth, emotional support, being active in your community, and involvement in religious or faith-based communities.
Those with higher scores showed younger biological ages (using markers like GrimAge and DunedinPACE) and less inflammation.
Importantly, these positive effects showed up no matter someone's background or income—so building strong connections really does pay off for everyone.
