WhatsApp's new 'Strict account settings' can block media from unknown senders
WhatsApp is testing a new feature called "Strict Account Settings" in its latest iOS beta, aimed at keeping high-risk users—like journalists and public figures—safer online.
With this enabled, the app will automatically block media from unknown senders and silence calls from unfamiliar numbers and stop random group invites, which may reduce the overall messaging experience in favor of tighter security.
Other privacy options include turning off link previews
You'll find these new settings under Privacy > Advanced.
They let you turn off link previews, lock down your privacy options so no one can change them without permission, and get alerts if your encryption keys change—helping you stay protected from phishing or impersonation.
The feature is in beta for iOS right now, with a wider release (and Android support) coming soon.
