Zoom's AI Companion 3.0 is here: What has changed?
What's the story
Zoom has unveiled the latest version of its AI solution, Zoom AI Companion 3.0. The new iteration comes with advanced features for personal workflows (in beta), agentic AI capabilities for Zoom Docs, and a revamped web interface. The idea is to help users discover insights, streamline their day, and enhance their work experience.
Technological advancement
Zoom's federated AI approach powers AI Companion 3.0
The AI Companion 3.0 leverages Zoom's federated AI approach, combining its own LLMs and SLMs with top third-party LLMs from OpenAI and Anthropic. Users can also use popular open-source models like NVIDIA Nemotron. This unique method, along with the improved transcription accuracy, closed captions, and translated captions of the AI Companion, gives users more accurate information retrieval and task completion capabilities.
User empowerment
Commitment to democratizing AI access
Zoom's President of Product and Engineering, Velchamy Sankarlingam, said the launch of AI Companion 3.0 marks a major shift for the company. He emphasized their mission to empower users with new capabilities that help them focus on connection. The latest features will be available as a standalone option and within paid Zoom plans, reflecting Zoom's commitment to democratizing access to AI technology.
User experience
AI Companion 3.0 can be accessed on web
AI Companion 3.0 can be accessed from a desktop web browser at ai.zoom.us. Some capabilities of AI Companion are also available for Zoom Workplace Basic users to try out. They can purchase the tool as a standalone service for just $10 per month without needing a paid Zoom Workplace license.
Feature highlights
It simplifies post-meeting tasks and follow-ups
AI Companion 3.0 comes with a new "conversational work surface" that connects to work interactions. This turns scattered meeting conversations/assets into insights, polishes documents and content without needing users to upload meeting transcripts or extra documents/craft detailed prompts. It also offers "agentic retrieval" capabilities that can search information across meeting summaries, transcripts, and notes in Zoom Workplace as well as connected third-party apps like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
