La Liga: Messi scores twice as Barca defeat Valencia 4-2
Barcelona were back to winning ways at Camp Nou after defeating Valencia 4-2 in La Liga. Lionel Messi scored two goals for the home team in 45th and 52nd minute. Luis Suarez scored the opening goal for Barca in 35th minute, while Andre Gomes closed the win with a 90th minute goal. Barcelona are on second spot, two points behind Real Madrid.
Real Madrid defeat Athletic Bilbao to collect five crucial points
A close win against Athletic Bilbao helped Real Madrid extend their lead to the top of La Liga. Karim Benzema gave a 1-0 lead to Madrid in the 25th minute, only to get scores equalized after a 65th minute goal by Aritz Aduriz. Casemiro scored the winning goal for Madrid in 68th minute to register their 13th win against Athletic Club in 15 matches.
Fifth placed Villarreal loses to Las Palmas
Kevin-Prince Boateng scored a 10th minute goal to give Las Palmas a win against fifth placed Villarreal. It was Villarreal's first loss away from home, ending their three-game winning run.
Atletico registers crucial victory over Sevilla
A goal each from Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann and Koke helped Atletico Madrid to defeat third placed Sevilla, who were looking to close on to table toppers Real Madrid. Godin scored the first goal in the 37th minute before a fantastic 20-yard free kick from Griezmann in the 61st minute. Koke scored the third goal in the 77th minute.
Gijon defeats Granada 3-1
Sporting Gijon collected a critical 3-1 win over Granada to move to the 18th place in the points table. Lacina Traore, Jean-Sylvain Babin and Carlos Carmona scored a goal each for Gijon.
