Abhinav Mukund: News

A left-handed batsman with a penchant for big scores, Abhinav Mukund has scored hundreds in both his Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy debuts. Debuting for Tamil Nadu in 2007 in first-class cricket, Mukund came into the team as a teenager. He had scored two triple-hundreds in his first-class career, one of which came when he was a teenager. Calm, composed, and one with an appetite for big scores, Mukund was tailor-made for international cricket. His first tryst with international cricket came when he was called up to the Under-19 squad for the 2008 U-19 World Cup. Albeit a poor campaign in the world cup, Mukund’s impressive performances in first-class cricket earned him a call-up to the Indian Test squad. He made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011. After the series, he was picked for the tour to England as well. His struggles against laterally moving balls forced the team to recall a not fully-fit Virender Sehwag instead. Mukund has played a total of seven Tests for India and still plays for Tamil Nadu in first-class cricket.
