One of the top-rated talents of South African cricket, Aiden Markram was considered a prodigy in his younger years. He rose to fame when he captained the U-19 team of South Africa to a world title in 2014. He was the leading run-scorer for South Africa in that series. However, inconsistent form and injury issues haunted Markram's career after the U-19 World Cup. After a string of consistent performances under the guidance of Mark Boucher, he was called up for South Africa's tour of England in 2017. Although he didn't play against England, he made his Test debut against Bangladesh the same year. After scoring centuries in his second and third Tests, he became the first South African player to score two centuries in the first three Tests. Markram made his ODI debut in 2017 against Bangladesh, too. In South Africa's 2018 ODI series against India, when captain Faf du Plessis was ruled out due to injury, Markram was appointed as the captain of the ODI team and became the second-youngest player to captain South Africa in ODIs.
