What's the story

India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia and also the limited-overs tour of New Zealand. The BCCI announced on Tuesday that the pacer will not take part in these series despite having been initially named in the squad. Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers in the Test series. Here's more.

Terrific show

Bumrah was pick of the Indian bowlers in the Tests

Bumrah was terrific for India in the 2-1 Test series victory that concluded on Monday. He was the star performer and picked 21 wickets at an average of just 17 across four Tests. Bumrah was extraordinary in the third Test in particular (nine wickets). Bumrah bowled a total of 157.1 overs and his workload was the focus here for giving him adequate rest.

Important for JB to get rest ahead of home series

The BCCI stated that it was key to give JB rest ahead of the home series against Australia. "Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia," the BCCI release stated on Tuesday. The Australian cricket team is scheduled to tour India in February and March.

Replacements

Pacers Siraj, Kaul named in the squad by BCCI

The BCCI named pacer Mohammed Siraj and Siddarth Kaul as his replacements. Siraj is set to take JB's place in the ODI series against Australia and New Zealand. Kaul will replace JB for the T20Is against the Kiwis. Both these pacers have shown good form in the Ranji Trophy recently and were rewarded for their impressive outings.
