5th T20I, England beat New Zealand: List of records broken

England and New Zealand brought flashbacks of the 2019 World Cup final, after the fifth T20I on Sunday went to a Super Over. This time however, both teams didn't score the exact runs in the Super Over. Both teams finished on 146 as England sealed the decisive moment. The visitors clinched the series 3-2. Here are the list of records broken.

How did the match pan out?

NZ managed 146/5 in a match that was reduced to 11 overs per side. Martin Guptill and Colin Munro shared a 83-run stand inside six overs. However, England got wickets in key moments to get some control. In reply, England lost quick wickets upfront. Jonny Bairstow (47) kept the chase alive but NZ hung on. However, England's lower order delivered to tie the game.

How did the Super Over pan out?

Tim Southee bowled the Super Over for NZ. He was up against Bairstow and Eoin Morgan. Both batsmen smashed a six each as England amassed 17 runs. For NZ, Guptill and Tim Seifert were chosen for the chase. England's experienced pacer Chris Jordan was superb and kept the Kiwis to just eight runs that included a wicket. This helped the Three Lions dictate.

New Zealand's Guptill smashes a host of feats

Guptill (50) became the third batsman in the world to surpass 2,400 career T20I runs (2,436) after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He slammed his 15th career T20I fifty as well. Guptill hit five sixes in the match. He now has 113 career T20I sixes and is two behind Rohit (115). The experienced opener also 215 career T20I fours.

Guptill and Munro script this feat as a pair

Guptill and Munro amassed their third career T20I fifty-run stand. The two now have 879 partnership runs in the format. They have now become the 11th pair to surpass the 800-run mark.

Munro scripts these massive records in T20Is

Munro (46) became the fifth New Zealand batsman to surpass the 1,500-run mark in T20Is (1,546). Munro went past several batsmen in terms of T20I runs including New Zealand star Kane Williamson (1,505 runs). He also registered 100 career T20I sixes. He became the second Kiwi and the fourth batsman in the world to register this record.

Morgan surpasses 2,000-run mark, Boult impresses

England skipper Morgan became the seventh batsman to get past 2,000 career T20I runs (2,002). He is also the first Englishman to notch this record. Morgan hit two sixes and raced to 96 maximums in T20Is. Trent Boult (2/35) now has 39 career T20I scalps. He equaled the likes of Mitchell Starc and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Tim Southee raced to 75 career T20I scalps.
