India have already sealed the Test series and lead 2-0.

Virat Kohli's men will be eyeing a clean sweep over the Proteas and maintain a 100% record.

However, Kohli is in fray to script this feat.

  • Earlier, Kohli was the number one batsman in the ICC Test Rankings for Batsmen.

Australian superstar Steve Smith claimed the spot after a defining Ashes 2019 series.

Smith scored 774 runs against England to boss the show.

However, Kohli regained lost ground in the second Test match against the Proteas with a record-breaking 254*.

Kohli's heroics helped India seal the Pune Test match.

  • Kohli was unstoppable in the second Test. He led the way for the side.

After the match, Kohli said he enjoys scoring runs.

"I'm just happy to be where I am. Putting the team in a commanding position is the only thing I strive for," Kohli said.

"Of course I enjoy scoring runs, but if they come in a winning cause, nothing like it."

Kohli needs two rating points to surpass Smith

  • Kohli will be eyeing to score more runs in the third Test against South Africa. He has 936 rating points at the moment and is a solitary point away from leader Smith, who sits at the top (937). Kohli could get past Smith next.

  • Kohli is likely to get past Smith soon. The next assignment for Team India is the two-match Test series against Bangladesh next month.

That's when the Indian skipper can gain more prominence in the rankings.

However, Australia will be involved in a two-match Test series against Pakistan at home.

One can expect Smith to defy the visitors and challenge Kohli for the top spot.
