What's the story

Veteran Indian opener captain Rohit Sharma has entered an elite club of cricketers to complete 5,000 runs in home ODIs. He achieved the feat during the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. The milestone came as he scored a brilliant 75 off just 73 balls, helping India clinch the series with a convincing nine-wicket victory. On this note, we list down the Indian batters with 5,000-plus runs in home ODIs.

#3

Rohit Sharma - 5,013 runs

Having played 95 matches at home, Rohit has raced to a tally of 5,013 runs at 56.96. The one in Visakhapatnam was his 24th fifty on home soil as he also owns 14 hundreds. Each of Rohit's three double-hundreds in the format came in India. No other batter has multiple double-tons in ODI cricket. Meanwhile, Rohit's 264 in the 2014 Kolkata affair is the highest individual score in ODI history.

#2

Virat Kohli - 6,627 runs

During the second ODI of the recent series against SA, Virat Kohli became only the second batter with 6,500 ODI runs at home. He completed 6,500 ODI runs at home in his 126th game (123 innings). The Indian batting talisman has now raced to 6,627 runs across 127 ODIs in India at a jaw-dropping average of 61.93. His tally of 26 ODI tons in India is the most for a batter in a particular nation (50s: 35).

#1

Sachin Tendulkar - 6,976

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar continues to top the list as he bowed out with 6,976 runs from 164 home ODIs, averaging a fine 48.11. He hammered 20 tons and 38 half-centuries. The 2010 Gwalior affair against SA saw Tendulkar become the first man to hammer a double-hundred in ODIs (200*). Notably, no batter other than Kohli and Tendulkar has even 5,500 runs in home ODIs.
