Australia defeat India in fifth ODI to win series 3-2

Australia scripted a memorable ODI series victory against India after winning the fifth match in Delhi on Wednesday. The visitors, who had gone down 0-2 earlier, managed to win their third successive ODI to seal the series 3-2. Australia rode on a fine century by Usman Khawaja to post 272/9. In reply, India's middle-order disappointed once again. Here are the records broken.

How did the match pan out?

Australia added 76 runs for the first wicket. Handscomb then joined hands with Khawaja to steer the Aussies. India hit back hard and got crucial wickets to restrict the visitors (272/9). Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/48) was the pick of the bowlers. In reply, India lost wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 132/6. Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvi fought back as Adam Zampa stood tall.

Khawaja smashes 383 runs in ODI series versus India

Usman Khawaja continued his fine form and registered his second century of this series and his ODI career was well. Khawaja (100) ended with 383 runs in this series. He struck four scores of 50-plus in this series and became only the second player to achieve the feat against India in an ODI series. Chris Gayle (4) recorded the same in 2002.

Khawaja surpasses AB de Villiers in this special feat

Khawaja (383) now has the most number of runs in a five-match bilateral ODI series against Men in Blue in India. The southpaw went past former South Africa batsman AB de Villiers, who had amassed 358 runs in 2015. Khawaja also became the first Australian player to score two hundreds against India in a bilateral ODI series (104 and 100).

Some important feats scripted in the fifth ODI

Kuldeep Yadav (1/74) recorded his second most expensive bowling figures in ODIs. The most runs he has conceded in an ODI are 75 against Australia in 2017 (Indore). Peter Handscomb (52) went past 500 ODI career runs (536). He also amassed his fourth career ODI fifty. Khawaja and Handscomb shared a 99-run stand for the second wicket on Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma registers 8,000 career ODI runs

Rohit Sharma (56) registered 8,000 runs in ODI cricket. He achieved the feat in his 200th inning. Rohit equalled former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly (200 innings). Only Virat Kohli (175) and AB de Villiers (182) have achieved this milestone in lesser innings. Rohit (8,010 runs) went past former Australian captain Michael Clarke in terms of career ODI runs (7,981). Rohit slammed his 41st fifty.

How 2019 has shaped up for these cricketers?

Virat Kohli became the first batsman to surpass the 600-run mark in ODIs this year (611). This was Rohit Sharma's fourth ODI fifty in 2019. Kuldeep now has 20 ODI wickets in 2019 and is second in the list behind Trent Boult (21). Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami follow suit (19 each). Cummins (13) is Australia's leading wicket-taker this year.

    Brilliant from Cummins and Zampa
