IPL 2021, Chennai beat Punjab: List of records broken
Chennai Super Kings beat Punjab Kings in match number eight of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season on Friday. Put into bat, Punjab managed 106/8 in 20 overs. Punjab were rocked from the beginning and were reduced to 26/5 in the seventh over. Chahar was top-notch, claiming four wickets in a brilliant spell. Playing his 50th game in the IPL, India pacer Deepak Chahar has raced to 49 career IPL scalps. He has achieved this mark at an average of 26.93. Chahar registered his best bowling figures in the IPL. This was also his maiden four-wicket haul in the cash-rich league. The former Rajasthan Royals bowler has 48 wickets for CSK, surpassing Shadab Jakati's tally (45).
Jadeja has now effected 22 run-outs in the history of the Indian Premier League. This is the most by any player, going past MS Dhoni (21). The left-arm spinner took two catches which has seen him race to 70 in the competition. Jadeja was also excellent with the ball, giving away just 19 runs from his four overs.
Chennai continued to have the edge in the head-to-head meetings between the two teams. In 24 meetings, CSK have won 15 games so far. Punjab have pocketed nine victories. In IPL 2020, the two sides met on two occasions. Chennai won both the games in a convincing manner. This was their third successive victory over Punjab in the IPL.
Faf du Plessis has gone past Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 2,334 runs in the IPL. Mohammed Shami claimed two scalps in his final over. He has raced to 63 scalps, steering clear of Mitchell Johnson (61).
