What's the story

The Indian Premier League's 12th edition is set to start in March next year. Prior to that we have the auction coming up on December 18, 2018. Royal Challengers Bangalore is one such franchise that is hogging a lot of limelight. Barring the auction, RCB have been dealt with a blow. Coach Gary Kirsten has surprised the team with this move.

Kirsten join the race to become women's cricket team coach

Kirsten has made himself available in the race for the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team. This has left RCB stunned. If Kirsten gets the job, then he will have to leave RCB, as nobody can hold two positions simultaneously. Many coaches in the past, who chose to be associated with the men's team, had to leave their assignments in the IPL.

Gary has not reached out to us: RCB

According to a report in Cricketnext, a spokesperson of RCB has gone on to reveal that the former South African cricketer has not reached out to them. "Gary has not reached out to us or mentioned anything about applying for any other position. Even if he is appointed, he will continue to be the RCB coach till the end of this season at least."

Coach

Kirsten had replaced Vettori as RCB coach

Kirsten had joined RCB before the previous edition as their batting coach. He went on to replace Daniel Vettori as their head coach for IPL 2019. The timing of Kirsten's reported application comes as a blow for RCB. Kirsten has desired experience in the IPL. Earlier, he was the head coach of IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

Kirsten could lead the race for women's team job

Kirsten could be one of the leading candidates for the women's cricket team coaching job. The former Proteas man had led the Indian men's team to a successful World Cup victory in 2011. The BCCI had invited applications for the post of women's team head coach earlier this month. The board did not make interim coach Ramesh Powar permanent.
