Kohli reveals secret behind his ODI success: 'Arrive at 120%'
What's the story
Virat Kohli, one of cricket's all-time greats, has revealed the secret to his phenomenal success in ODIs. The Indian batting stalwart, who on Sunday scored his 52nd ODI century in the 1st ODI versus South Africa in Ranchi, said he always arrives at a venue "at 120%." Despite having a long career spanning more than 17 years and playing in numerous ODIs, Kohli remains committed to giving his all on the field.
Preparation strategy
Kohli's approach to preparation and recovery
Kohli, who plays only one format for India these days, arrived early in Ranchi ahead of the first ODI against South Africa. He wanted to get a feel for the conditions and have a couple of batting sessions before the match. "I visualize the game a lot in my mind...as long as when I think about the game, if I see myself being as intense, as sharp... then I know I'm in a good space," he said after receiving his 44th Player-of-the-Match award in ODIs.

Kohli emphasized the importance of mental preparedness in cricket. "I've never been a big believer of a lot of preparation. All my cricket has been mental," he said. He also stressed on physical fitness, saying as long as his fitness levels are up and his mental sharpness is there, he can visualize the game well enough to know he'll be fine on the field.

In the first ODI of the series, Kohli scored a brilliant 135 off 120 balls, taking India to a strong total of 349/8. He hit seven sixes during his innings, only the third time in his ODI career that he has hit more than five in an innings. This year, it was his second ODI century, the other being an unbeaten 100 against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
