Chinaman bowlers at the international level have been far and few. Those who became successful are an even rare breed. Indian cricketer Kuldeep Yadav belongs in the latter category. From starting out as a fast bowler to becoming a spinning sensation, Yadav took the untrodden path and reaped the handsome rewards it paid. He began to turn heads with his performance for the India U-19 squad. In the 2014 U-19 World Cup, he finished as the leading wicket-taker for India. He took a hat-trick as well, which was the first for an Indian bowler in the tournament. Yadav made his first-class debut in a Duleep Trophy match between Central Zone and North Zone. Yadav made his international debut in 2017 in a Test match against Australia. A surprise addition to the team, he bamboozled the Australian batsmen in the first innings and took four wickets. He was the joint-highest wicket-taker in his debut ODI series against West Indies in the same year. Yadav is only the third spinner in the world to have five-wicket hauls in all formats of the game. He is also the only Indian bowler with two hat-tricks in ODI cricket.
