Separamadu Lasith Malinga, popularly known as ‘Slinga Malinga,’ is a former professional cricket player from Sri Lanka. He is known as one of the greatest limited-overs bowlers in the history of cricket. The fast bowler specialized in death-over bowling. He is also widely known for his round-arm action or sling action. Malinga has played 30 Test matches and 226 ODIs in his cricket career. He made his first-class debut in domestic cricket in the 2001-2002 season. On July 1, 2004, Malinga made his Test debut against Australia in Darwin and took six wickets in the match. In the same year, he made his ODI debut against the United Arab Emirates. He is the first bowler to take 100 international wickets in all three formats. Malinga is also the first bowler to take 100 wickets in T20I matches and the only bowler to take five international hat-tricks. He was selected as the Sri Lankan team’s captain during the T20 World Cup 2014. On September 14, 2021, he bid farewell to all forms of cricket.
