Afghanistan’s meteoric rise to cricket’s creamy layer surprised many. A bunch of players who played with grit and determination was behind that rise. Few of those names stand out but none more than Mohammad Nabi. The man who was there throughout their rise from the World Cricket League to multiple World Cups, Nabi was their guiding light. Nabi began his cricketing journey in Pakistan. He made his first-class debut for M.C.C in 2007. His international debut came against Scotland in 2009. On a cricket field, there was no role too good for Nabi. A trusted top-order batsman, a slog sweeper, a crunch hitter - he did it all. To top it off, his off-breaks were no joke as well. He also had a pair of safe hands in the field. Nabi was the first player from Afghanistan to be picked up by an IPL franchise. His contributions to the Afghanistan team earned him the captaincy of the team as well. His skills with the bat and ball meant that he became a staple in various T20 leagues around the world.
