Here's the best over Ricky Ponting ever faced
Former Australian star batsman Ricky Ponting left a lasting legacy in the world of cricket. Ponting was a champion in both Tests and ODIs. He went on to score a truckload of runs. However, speaking on the best over he has ever faced during his playing days, Ponting recalled the one by Andrew Flintoff. Here's more on the same.
England went on to win the Test match held at Edgbaston by two runs. The hosts managed 407 runs in the first innings. Marcus Trescothick (90) Kevn Pietersen (71) and Flintoff (68) scored impressive fifties. For Australia, Shane Warne claimed four scalps. In reply, Australia were bundled out for 308. England were bowled out for 182 next. However, Australia failed to get past 282.
Chasing 282, Australia lost the first wicket for 47. Flintoff dismissed Justin Langer in the 13th over. Ponting came in after two deliveries. He managed to survive the first three balls with Flintoff generating pace and swing. Flintoff overstepped and Ponting had to face one more delivery. The Englishman bowled a full-pitched delivery outside the off-stump and drew Ponting, who edged the same.
Flintoff was superb in that Test and claimed seven scalps. He picked up three wickets in the first innings. That was followed by another four wickets in the second. Flintoff went on to claim the highest number of wickets in The Ashes 2005 series (24). The all-rounder also became the first Englishman to take 20-plus wickets and score 400-plus runs in a Test series.
Meanwhile, Ponting went on to play 35 Tests in The Ashes. He scored 2,476 runs at an average of 44.21. Punter went on to score eight tons and nine fifties. His best was 196.
