What's the story

South Africa, the 2025 ICC World Test Championship winners, have been on a roll. They recently won their maiden Test series on Indian soil in 25 years, routing the hosts 2-0. The Proteas have been riding on Temba Bavuma's astute leadership, as he has won 11 of his first 12 Tests as captain. SA are unbeaten in their last three Test series in Asia.

Bangladesh

South Africa rout Bangladesh 2-0, 2024

SA's recent Asian run started with the Bangladesh series in 2024. They started with a seven-wicket win over the hosts in Mirpur. Centurion Kyle Verreynne stole the show. The Proteas leveled up and won the final Test (Chattogram) by an innings and 273 runs. Tony de Zorzi (177) was adjudged the Player of the Match, while Kagiso Rabada concluded the series with 14 wickets.

Pakistan

PAK-SA series ends in 1-1 draw, 2025

After a year, South Africa traveled to Pakistan amid the current WTC cycle. The Proteas suffered a 93-run defeat to Pakistan in the series opener in Lahore. However, they bounced back with an eight-wicket win in Rawalpindi to level the series. During the series, SA discovered a lethal spin attack in Senuran Muthusamy and Simon Harmer. In Rawalpindi, Harmer completed 1,000 First-Class wickets.

India

SA shatter long-standing records in India, 2025

After the Pakistan series, India awaited SA for a two-match Test series. Notably, SA hadn't won a Test in the nation in 15 years (since 2010). And they were vying for their first Test series win on Indian soil since 2000. The Proteas successfully defended 123 at Eden Gardens (1st Test) to end the drought. And they stopped India from chasing 549 in Guwahati.
