Shardul Thakur to lead Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
What's the story
All-rounder Shardul Thakur has been appointed as the captain of the Mumbai team for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy (SMAT). The tournament will kick off on November 26 at Lucknow's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Shivam Dube will also join the team during its league stage matches. Here are further details.

As per The Times of India, the 17-member squad announced by Mumbai selectors also includes veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane. He had a stellar performance last season, scoring 469 runs in nine matches at an average of 58.62 and a strike rate of 164.56. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who has been leading the Mumbai Under-23 team this season, will be one of the two wicketkeepers in this squad.

Mumbai, the defending champions, will kick off their campaign against Railways on November 26. They will then take on Vidarbha (November 28), Andhra (November 30), Assam (December 2), Kerala (December 4), Chhattisgarh (December 6) and Odisha (December 8). The team had won the SMAT title last season under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy.
