Shane Warne thinks Australia will win World Cup, here's why

Legend Shane Warne feels that the return of Steve Smith and David Warner can help Australia to clinch the ICC World Cup 2019. Both cricketers, who are serving a 12-month ban, would witness their exile come to an end on March 29. Warne believes that the two will be hungrier than ever and can spark Australia to World Cup glory. Here's what he said.

ODI cricket
Australia have struggled in ODI cricket

Australia have struggled in ODIs since the start of 2017. The Aussies have lost a staggering seven successive ODI series up till now and also trail India 0-2 in the ongoing five-match battle. They have missed leaders in the batting department. Moreover, Warner and Smith's year-long exile robbed them of players who can lead them from front. Their return would aid the depleted side.

Opinion
'They'll walk straight back in, they'll be hungry'

Speaking to Fox Sports, the Aussie ace spinner said, "You freshen your mind up, you become hungry again and realize how important cricket is to you. That's why I reckon Australia can win the World Cup." Warne added, "They'll walk straight back in, they'll be hungry. They'll be a bit nervous in the first few games but that'll be good for them."

Performance
What have been Smith and Warner upto since last year?

Smith and Warner were banned last year for their involvement in a ball-tampering scandal in the Test series against South Africa. They were seen in several T20 leagues and played grade cricket in Australia. Both the players suffered injuries during the Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year and had to rush back home. But now they are recovering well post their respective elbow surgeries.

Time ahead
What next for Smith and Warner?

Both these players are expected to play a role for Australia in the remainder of the ODI series against Pakistan after March 29. Post that, the two star players are set to feature in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The experienced campaigners are likely to be named in Australia's World Cup squad and will head for preparations in April end.

2015 World Cup
How did these two perform in the 2015 World Cup?

Smith and Warner played massive roles for Australia in the 2015 World Cup victory. They bagged the highest runs for Australia. Smith amassed 402 runs at an average of 67.00. Warner provided immense support with 345 runs at an average of 49.28. So when it comes to a tournament like World Cup, both these players know how to handle pressure.

Our take
Smith and Warner are massive for Australia: Our take

Both Smith and Warner need to derive the maximum out of the IPL. Quality time on the field will help them to get back to form. They could be rusty in the first couple of matches, but expect the two to get in their zones. Their return will boost the morale as one expects the camp to be in a better frame of mind.
