The blaze, which raged for over 40 hours, has left around 200 people missing and claimed at least 128 lives. The fire started on protective netting on the lower floors of one tower and spread rapidly to seven out of eight high-rises. The city's anti-corruption watchdog arrested eight individuals, including consultants and subcontractors linked to the project. Fire services chief Andy Yeung revealed that alarm systems in all eight blocks were malfunctioning, leaving residents unaware of the danger.

The blaze was Hong Kong's deadliest since 1948, when an explosion and fire killed at least 135 people. Temporary accommodation has been arranged for around 800 people affected by the fire, with nine emergency shelters set up. A community effort is also underway to support firefighters and those displaced by the tragedy, with supply stations for clothes, food, medical, and psychological care.
