
Pakistan: Suicide attack at police training center kills 7 personnel
What's the story
A suicide attack on the Ratta Kulachi Police Training School in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwestern Pakistan, left seven police personnel dead. The incident occurred late Friday night when terrorists rammed an explosives-laden truck into the main gate of the training school. Following this, armed assailants wearing different uniforms stormed into the compound and opened fire.
Counterattack
6 terrorists gunned down
In the ensuing chaos, police personnel retaliated and surrounded the attackers. A five-hour gun battle ensued, during which six terrorists were killed. Security forces also recovered suicide vests, explosives, modern weapons, and ammunition from the terrorists' possession. Thirteen police personnel were injured in the attack and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Evacuation
Operation supervised by DPO, RPO
Around 200 trainees, instructors, and staff members were present at the training school during the attack. However, they were all safely evacuated to secure locations. The operation was supervised on-site by DPO Dera Ismail Khan Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed and RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar. It involved SSG commandos, Al-Burq Force, Elite Force, and police personnel.
Aftermath
Area secured, search operation on
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed that the area has been secured and a search operation is underway to clear any remaining threats. He also praised the leadership of RPO and DPO for their role in the successful operation. The attack has been condemned by authorities who have vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
