Jaguar's 1st electric GT car will be launched in 2026
What's the story
Jaguar, the British luxury automaker, has pushed back the global launch of its first-ever four-door electric GT. The car was initially slated to make its debut later this year but will now be revealed in 2026. The decision comes after a major cyberattack on the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group in August, which severely disrupted production and operations at several facilities.
Attack fallout
Cyberattack on JLR group
The cyberattack on JLR was so severe that it is estimated to cost the UK economy around £1.9 billion (approximately ₹22,000 crore), a CMC study found. The attack forced JLR to suspend production at its Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton plants. The company-wide IT shutdown also prevented new order processing and affected dealerships and suppliers. Given the scale of this incident, it is likely that Jaguar had little choice but to delay the debut of its new four-door electric GT.
Strategic shift
Jaguar's strategy amid challenges
Despite being affected by the cyberattack, Land Rover was in a better position than Jaguar due to its SUV-only lineup. However, with no active models in its global portfolio, Jaguar needs a new strategy to attract customers. The launch of the new four-door electric GT will mark a new chapter for the brand, amid fluctuating demand for premium electric cars globally.
Market competition
Competition and market dynamics for premium EVs
The production version of the Jaguar four-door electric GT will first be launched in North America in 2026, followed by Europe and other global markets. If launched in India, it would take on the likes of Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan.
