Rivian and VW join forces for affordable EVs

Auto

Rivian and Volkswagen are teaming up in a $5.8 billion partnership to create new, more affordable electric vehicles.
The plan is to share tech and supplier networks, which should help both brands cut costs.
Scout Motors (part of VW) is expected to launch a Rivian-like SUV and pickup truck by 2028.

What else is happening?

Their new joint venture will also let other carmakers use their EV technology, opening up extra revenue streams.
Even though Rivian has faced layoffs and lost some tax perks, they're still pushing ahead with a new plant in Georgia and the upcoming R2 SUV.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen is dealing with profit drops from tariffs and slow EV sales, so both companies are hoping this collaboration helps them stay competitive.
